Reporting Lag

Also known as: Data Freshness, Sync Lag, Data Latency

Reporting Lag is the delay between something happening in Zendesk and that event appearing in your reports. Zendesk Explore syncs historical data on a schedule rather than continuously — daily on Lite plans and roughly hourly on Professional and Enterprise — so every standard dashboard shows a snapshot rather than the live queue.

Why Reporting Lag Matters

Lag decides which questions a dashboard can answer. An hourly-synced report is fine for trends, staffing reviews, and weekly ops meetings, but it cannot be used to monitor a queue in real time. Most disagreements between a dashboard and an agent’s screen are lag, not a data error.

How to Calculate

Current time − timestamp of the most recent synced record

In Explore, editors see the dataset refresh time in the report builder. To expose it to dashboard viewers, build a calculated attribute using DATE_LAST([Ticket updated - Timestamp]) and place it on the dashboard.
